Tattoo Q&A
Tattoo Q&A - Most commonly asked questions
Q: Where do you tattoo? Where is the studio located?
A: In April 2024, I opened White Lotus Art Gallery and Tattoo located inside of 78th street studios, an interestingly unique and fun artists studio / event space in Cleveland, Ohio.
Q: How do I book an appointment with you?
A: Please see the Booking Info page!
Q: What got you into tattooing?
A: I started tattooing in 2020, right in the middle of Covid, I was working as a full time freelance artist, graphic designer, model, and brand ambassador at the time before and lost all of my art gigs. I wanted to start something different but still along the lines of what has been an interest of mine for awhile, and that was tattooing. I managed to find an apprenticeship at a shop in the Cleveland area and learned everything from a range of artists that worked at the shop.
Q: How did you land an apprenticeship tattooing?
A: I did a lot of research before I started even venturing out to find the apprenticeship. Since I was older with a degree from The Cleveland Institute of Art and some experience already working professionally as an artist before, I had some general knowledge of the range of styles in tattooing and also knew to research the history and art itself before I approached the artist that I wanted to learn from.
Q: Do you offer apprenticeships at the moment?
A: I am not offering apprenticeships currently. However, I am working on an assistant/tattoo apprenticeship program that I will hold for a few artists looking to gain some experience in both the tattoo industry and also as working professional artists. The program will be announced coming March 2025 and will offer opportunities for artists from all different backgrounds. I don't want to limit anyone from being apart of, but still will have some guidelines in terms of what I'm looking for in the applicants.
Q: What are some of the things that you will be looking for as far as the assistant/tattoo apprenticeship job? Will it be paid?
A: I am still in the notion of structuring the program in a way that I would like as well as determine the qualifications. However, here is a short list of some basic qualifications I am looking for in the applicants:
*Must be skilled (or potentially , as working towards) in Drawing / Painting or both
*Must have a sketchbook and have more then 15 (high quality) drawings of various subjects including : still life's, flowers, portraits or human figures, animals, design work
*Must have some sort of online presence as an artist and showcasing your work
-as far as the paid portion for the assistant job - is still TBD
If tattooing is something that you are interested in pursuing, the best advice I can give is to draw all the time (every day) and research tattoo styles and history. Pin down what you want for yourself and what you would like to gain/achieve from your pursuit. There is a ton of information online/YouTube and such from experienced artists talking about there start and learning from those artists might also help you gain some insight into knowing whether its something you would be truly interested in.
